Key Stage 4 & 5 / Career Progression:
Physical Education continues at GCSE as it is important students remain active as this will help them both physically and mentally with the rest of their academic studies.
Those students who wish to continue Physical Education as a GCSE will have additional three lessons per week where they will study a combination of additional theory and practical skills. Should your daughter choose GCSE PE as one of her options, she will have the opportunity to continue to represent the school in regular fixtures, as well as the London Youth Games. She will also attend a trip to the fascinating Body Worlds exhibition in Piccadilly as part of her course.

Breakdown of course:
The course is split into two parts. 60% is theory, where students sit two exam papers and 40% is coursework and practical assessment.
Theory topics that are taught:
Practical Performance (100 marks 40%)
Students must write a piece of coursework where they analyse and evaluate their own performance in one of the sports that they are getting assessed in, this is worth 25 marks. Students also get assessed in 3 sports, this assessment is broken down into skills and game play, again out of 25 marks.
Throughout the course in year 9 students will take part in table tennis, trampolining, netball, volleyball, badminton, and athletics. In year 10 & 11 this is then reduced to the 4 sports that they will be doing for their final GCSE practical exam. The sports that the student scores the 3 highest marks in will be what will be sent to the examiner. Students should be taking part in a club outside of school as this will enhance their practical grade, if this is a sport that we do not do within school, then we will come and watch them at a fixture. They will still be assessed in all the sports.
